Helping you make room to thrive in both your PhD career and in motherhood, without losing yourself.

Build a career that honours both your ambition and your family.

My mission is simple: Help you build a career that works for your whole life, not just your work life.
This isn’t about becoming someone new. This is about restoring the woman, mother, and scholar you already are… and reclaiming your life with purpose, presence, and peace.
I know this because I’ve lived it. I was the high-achieving mother who looked successful on paper but felt stretched thin in real life. I’ve learned, through my own restoration journey, that leading yourself first changes everything. It’s how you build a career that feels steady and meaningful. It’s how you create real impact at work, at home, and within yourself, without sacrificing yourself to get there.
Now, I walk alongside ambitious mothers like you as you do the same. Through intentional work around clarity, identity, and self-leadership, you move from autopilot to purposeful design, becoming the Scholarly Mama® you’re meant to be.
Because this season of your life doesn’t require you to choose. It requires you to design, differently.

the mission behind the movement

Meet Dr Michelle Gibbs

Hey Mama, welcome!

As a wife and mother of three sons, I know that ambitious mothers don’t have to choose. You can build a career that advances your impact and also honours your family and your well-being.

I have five degrees, including a PhD completed during early motherhood, and a post-doctoral career in clinical academic research leadership. Through that journey (and my own season of quiet burnout) I learned that busyness that leaves you exhausted isn’t a badge of honour. It’s a signal to lead yourself differently.

Mrs Mummy PhD® exists to help you design exactly that: A career that feels sustainable (PhD and beyond). A home that feels alive. A steady, quiet confidence. All without sacrificing your ambition, your family, or yourself.

This is the quiet work of scholarly motherhood: A shift from overwork to meaningful living through self-leadership, identity, and intentional life design.

It starts with clarity about what actually matters. Moves to a concrete plan. And becomes a career (and a life) that’s fully yours.

Two versions of me. Same woman. One was running o Two versions of me. Same woman.

One was running on fumes, performing productivity, and calling it ambition.

The other figured out that you can’t pour from empty, and stopped pretending she could.

I didn’t find a new version of myself. I found my way back to myself.

That’s the work I do with burnt-out mother scholars. Not reinvention. Not adding more to your plate. Not quitting the career you’ve worked hard for.

Simply returning you to yourself.

Your ambition is not the problem. The absence of you in your own life is.

If you’re exhausted and still somehow holding everything together — I see you. I was you.

And there’s another way. 🔗 in bio.

I quit. Here’s why…👇🏽 In my post-PhD era, I gradu I quit. Here’s why…👇🏽

In my post-PhD era, I gradually began drifting into living by default… doing what looked good, what sounded impressive, and functioning at a pace that was frankly unsustainable for me…

But after experiencing quiet burnout, I challenged myself by asking: What would it look like to quit living by default and start living by design again?

The answer required courage. And some powerful quits…

In this week’s episode, I’m sharing what I quit, why it felt so difficult, and how good it feels to become her again — the version of me that got lost in the juggle-struggle.

If you’ve ever felt guilty for wanting to step away from something that no longer fits, this one’s for you.

Because quitting isn’t always giving up. Sometimes it’s the most honest act of self-leadership there is.

It’s easy to turn this whole thing into a personal It’s easy to turn this whole thing into a personal failing.

To believe you’re not coping well enough.
Not organised enough.
Not disciplined enough.
Not smart enough.
Not doing enough.
Not working hard enough.

But what if feeling overstretched isn’t a sign of inadequacy…
What if it was the reality of how much you’re carrying?

Mothering..
Working.
Thinking.
Leading.
Caring.
Building.
Climbing.
Growing.

All at once.

Mama, you were never meant to carry it all at the same time.

And maybe the shift isn’t in doing more, better…
but in leading yourself more gently through what is.

This is the real transformation… and one that isn’t just possible, but necessary.

You see, sustainable success begins here i.e success that doesn’t cost us ourselves or burn us out in the process… success, redefined.

And the ripple effect? Success that feels as good on the inside (purpose, presence, peace) as it looks on the outside (titles, accolades, achievements)…

I still do.

The difference now isn’t the size of the dream… it’s the shape of it.

Sustainable success doesn’t mean settling for less. It means seeking well and leading myself differently toward the life I want.

It means ambition that includes my health, my children, my marriage, and the woman I am becoming… not ambition that costs them.

This journey didn’t end when I became a wife and Mama. It evolved…

And if you’re a high-achieving Mama and wondering whether there’s room for both… there is…. It just might look different to what you originally imagined.

We don’t outgrow our dreams. We grow them into lives we can actually live inside.

Episode 127 of the @mrsmummyphd podcast is out today.

When did exhaustion become proof of excellence? When did exhaustion become proof of excellence?

Somewhere along the way, many of us high-achieving mothers started believing that depletion is just part of the deal.

But our bodies tell us a different story: that productivity built on overextension doesn’t lead to impact… it leads to erosion.

You don’t need a life you recover from. Not from your work. Not from motherhood. Not from being you.

Restoration isn’t giving up. It’s self-leadership in action. It’s choosing a version of success that allows you to stay present in your own life.

I explore this more deeply on the @mrsmummyphd podcast and blog, where I talk about burnout, survival mode, and what sustainable success actually looks like for high-achieving mothers.

If this resonates, start there (links in bio).

Because success shouldn’t cost you yourself.

You can love your scholarly work and still be worn out by it, especially when you’re a high-achieving Mama.

If you’ve been quietly burning out it doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means something needs to change.

Self-sacrifice shouldn’t have to be the price of your ambition.

Does this sound familiar?👇🏽 So many mother schola Does this sound familiar?👇🏽

So many mother scholars are doing well on the outside but quietly burning out on the inside.

That’s the quiet truth behind a lot of success.

My own season of quiet burnout taught me that success without sustainability is just survival.

Not dramatic burnout. Just coping and calling it success. Yet tired, exhausted and in constant pursuit.

Mama, you deserve ways of learning, leading, and living that include your health, your home, and yourself.
